If you pay for four or more prescriptions in three months, or
for 15 prescriptions or more over a year, a Pre-Payment Certificate
will save you money.
Pre-Payment Certificates are like season tickets, allowing
people who need regular prescriptions to save money through a
pre-paid set fee for prescriptions, regardless of the number of
medicines they need.
The current costs of Pre-Payment Certificates (PPC) in England*
are:
- £28.25 for a three-month PPC
- £104 for a 12-month PPC (you can pay for the 12-month PPC by
direct debit, which allows you to spread the cost over ten monthly
installments)
You can purchase a PPC in one of the following ways:
- Phone: 0845 850 0030 (interpretation services available)
- Online: Using the NHS's online application form
- Post: Using the FP95 form, which is available from your local
GP surgery or pharmacy
- Pharmacy: The FP95 form can be used to buy PPC directly at
pharmacies registered to sell the PPC
*If you are a resident in Scotland, you can purchase a
four-month PPC for £10 until prescription charges are abolished in
Scotland from April 2011.

If you are a resident in Wales or Northern Ireland, you do not
need a PPC, as your prescription is free of charge.
