Ben was diagnosed with asthma at age 14 months but his mother Nicola says his symptoms began at the age of six months. Initially his wheezing and breathing problems were put down to an allergic response to swimming, which meant that an asthma diagnosis was not made, despite him being admitted to hospital almost once a week for six months.

Nicola felt she was given conflicting advice and as a result, she decided to be proactive and seek out information about asthma herself. Nicola has found Asthma UK and it's resources incredibly helpful, such as the booklet, Asthma in the Under 5s.
