Asthma: Severe throughout her childhood, but following regular meetings with an asthma consultant, her condition is better controlled, resulting in fewer emergency visits to hospital. 

Shayna was diagnosed with asthma as a baby. She was so ill that she had to stay in hospital for several weeks. Her mum Diane says that although she was shown how to use an inhaler by the doctors, she wasn’t given important information about what causes asthma and the triggers that might be affecting Shayna’s condition. Her triggers include exercise, dust, colds and other allergies (that can result in anaphylaxis). She finds it hard to keep up with school and can get upset when she has to miss out.
