For example, Asthma UK Cymru’s Alert to Asthma programme has been given a generous grant of almost £20,000 by the Millennium Stadium Charitable Trust.

The Alert to Asthma programme aims to deliver 20 training sessions in 2010 to teachers and child carers to give them the skills and confidence to support children with asthma in their care.

On average four children are rushed to hospital everyday in Wales fighting to breathe, which is the most per head of the population compared to the rest of the UK. The Alert to Asthma programme can play a key part in helping children better manage their condition and reducing these distressing experiences.

Catrin Shorney, Asthma Services Development Officer for Wales says: ‘The grant from the Millennium Stadium Charitable Trust is a huge boost to the Alert to Asthma programme, enabling Asthma UK Cymru to reach more disadvantaged communities and those where asthma has made the most impact, as well as being able to provide training kits and improved training materials. Through providing this much needed training programme for teachers and carers our Alert to Asthma programme will have a far reaching and lasting impact on children with asthma in Wales’.

The Pfizer UK Foundation has given a grant of £33,000 to fund a project to help children with asthma in Sandwell, West Midlands. The Pfizer UK Foundation supports tailored projects aimed at addressing health inequalities in local communities which are led by those most familiar with local unmet health needs.

Three children abseiling on a Kick-A holiday. npower have also recently made a generous donation of £5,000 towards Kick Asthma Holidays. npower gives to projects meeting their strategic themes of health and education and the Kick Asthma Holidays meet both of these objectives.

npower’s contribution will enable six children with asthma who may otherwise not get the chance to have a holiday at all to participate and benefit from the fantastic experience of Kick Asthma.

By donating to Asthma UK not only will you be contributing to your company's corporate social responsibility programme: you will also be giving something back to the UK-wide community.
