How can I support Asthma UK?

Frequently asked questions about the different ways in which people can contribute to Asthma UK.

Q.

How can I donate?

A.

It’s easy to donate to Asthma UK. The simplest way is to go to our Donate now page and give online. Alternatively, you can contact our Supporter & Information Team (08456 03 81 43; info@asthma.org.uk) and speak to one of our team to give over the telephone. If you would prefer to write a cheque, simply send it to Asthma UK, Summit House, 70 Wilson Street, London EC2A 2DB. We’ll send you a thank you letter so you know your gift has been received and that your money is being put to use supporting our vital work.

Q.

How will my gift make a difference?

A.

Every gift we receive, whatever its size, makes a huge difference to our work and what we can achieve - it is only with the help of our supporters that we can continue our vital work.

Your gift will be put to work straight away and could help us fund our Adviceline which provides a lifeline service to people with asthma; fund research to help us understand more about why asthma develops in the first place and to find better treatments; or to support Kick Asthma, our educational breaks for children with asthma. Wherever your money is used, you can be sure it is working to make a difference to the lives of people with asthma. You can see more about how your gifts make a difference on our How your donation helps page.

Q.

Why are regular, monthly donations so important for Asthma UK?

A.

Regular donations are an important source of income for Asthma UK and a great way to support Asthma UK. They allow us to plan our work effectively, as we know how much we will receive and when. This helps us to make longer term commitment to projects which could make a difference to the lives of people with asthma confident that we have the ability to sustain them. It is also a great way for you to support as it means you can be assured that each month you are making a difference in a simple and easy way.

Q.

Can I donate non-cash items?

A.

Yes – we can accept some donated goods (gifts-in-kind) or services, but not all of them. We don’t have a network of charity shops, so we cannot accept large quantities of second-hand items as we do not have anywhere to sell them. If you are interested in giving goods or services, please contact our Supporter & Information Team on 08456 03 81 43 or email info@asthma.org.uk and they will be able to advise on you what we can and cannot accept.

Q.

What if I make a donation in error?

A.

No problem – simply contact Supporter & Information Team on 08456 03 81 43 or email info@asthma.org.uk. They will be happy to refund this money back into the account it came from if the gift was made in error.

Q.

What is a Gift Aid declaration?

A.

A Gift Aid declaration means you give Asthma UK permission to claim back any tax you have paid on your gift. This makes it worth almost a third more at no cost to you.

Making a Gift Aid declaration is easy – all it requires is for you to be a UK tax payer and that you have paid the same amount in tax in a year as we will claim. This is often much less than you might imagine. For example if you donate £10 and you are a UK tax payer you will probably have paid £2.80 in tax. Therefore if you give your Gift Aid declaration to Asthma UK it means your gift of £10 would actually be worth £12.80 to Asthma UK.

To make a Gift Aid declaration, either print out and return the form on our Gift Aid page or contact our Supporter and Information Team (08456 03 81 43) and one of our team can take your declaration over the telephone.
