2010 Foundation grants

The application process for research project grants starting in 2010 is now closed.

We support projects to increase our understanding of why people develop asthma, identify new treatments to control and prevent asthma, and address the wider social and psychological issues faced by people living
with asthma.

The aim of our Foundation grants is to maintain the quality and broaden the scope of our work. They are also a practical response to the unstable financial climate.

We aim to award grants that will lead to the development of larger projects that have the potential to attract the interest of funders such as the MRC, Wellcome Trust and the NIHR.

We are also looking for researchers who are able and willing to help us set our future research priorities. If you are interested, please send your details to research@asthma.org.uk

Who can apply for funding?

Asthma UK welcomes applications from clinical and non-clinical researchers covering basic science, social science and clinical management of asthma and health services research.

Lead applicants must have a tenured position at a UK university or similar research institution and have their salaries guaranteed for the term of
the grant.

Where there is collaboration with workers in different institutional laboratories, there must be a signed declaration from each of the collaborators that they have consented to cooperate in the programme
of research.

Applications must come from UK groups. However, collaboration with overseas groups may be acceptable if the research will provide clear benefit for people with asthma in the UK.

This year we are providing funding for Foundation grants for the duration of one year only. Grant holders must reapply through subsequent grant rounds if an additional period of funding is sought, and it is not guaranteed.
