Health information

Asthma UK's team of health experts and editors produces a wide range of information materials about asthma, aimed at people with asthma, parents of children with asthma, and health and education professionals.

  • All the health information on this website has been developed by in-house editors working with asthma nurse specialists and our health promotion team, and is checked by independent medical advisers.
  • All health information should indicate when it was last updated. This date can be found in the footer of each page on this website.
  • A set of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about asthma is available in more than 20 languages as well as English, in PDF format for download. The FAQs are also available in braille, in British Sign language, on tape and CD and as MP3 downloads.
For further information about these resources please contact our Supporter & Information Team on 0800 121 62 55 or email info@asthma.org.uk.

Aims

The aim of Asthma UK's publications is to strengthen the skills and capabilities of individuals through a strong self-management approach. Our core information materials and messages all aim to support people with asthma to self-manage and to take control of their condition.

Information must be accurate, accessible, consistent, positive and empowering. It should be delivered to the right person at the right time to support people with asthma to understand their condition and how to manage it.

Evidence

We draw on the expert opinion of health professionals and medical research in writing evidence-based publications.

To guarantee the accuracy and credibility of our information, we use rigorous criteria to select the information sources used to research and write our publications. All information gathered from external sources is cross-referenced with established medical textbooks or government guidelines or one of Asthma UK’s medical advisors or clinical team.

Obtaining reference materials

We can provide information on how to locate our reference sources, and in some cases we can supply copies of the relevant documents. For more information please contact our Supporter and Information Team on 0800 121 62 55 or email info@asthma.org.uk

Outside the UK

Unfortunately we are unable to send large orders overseas, although many of our resources are easily downloadable as PDFs from this website.

We can under some circumstances send out a sample pack of our materials. However it might be useful to remember that Asthma UK's advice and materials have been developed for a UK audience accessing the UK health system and therefore may not always contain relevant information for people with asthma in other countries.

Using Asthma UK information

If you would like to use Asthma UK's materials or information as a resource or as a guide when developing your own materials, you will need to seek explicit agreement from Asthma UK to do this. There is usually no problem for us to give this approval.

We do ask that any material you use is credited to Asthma UK, and that any materials adapted from Asthma UK be credited appropriately to us for the original idea.

Copying sections of text from our website for inclusion in your leaflets is fine too as long as Asthma UK is credited appropriately for the information.
