Influencing government & policy

We aim to influence policy and decision makers across the UK and make them aware of the needs and concerns of people with asthma in order to improve asthma care.

This is achieved through a range of activities in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, including talking directly to politicians and civil servants, working in partnership with other organisations, and online campaigning.

Lobbying government

We constantly monitor Government activity and lobby central and devolved administrations, meeting regularly with Members of Parliaments and Assemblies, Peers, Ministers and Civil Servants.

Asthma UK works with Dr Howard Stoate MP to administer the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Asthma at Westminster.

We also work with Members of Parliaments and Assemblies who have a particular interest in asthma, to help them highlight the needs and concerns of people with asthma through leading debates, tabling motions and asking questions of Ministers.

Working in partnership

As the country’s recognised leading independent body on asthma we also work in partnership with other organisations and opinion formers to promote a better understanding of asthma and long-term conditions.

E-campaigning

You can influence government and policy decisions by becoming a member of our e-campaigners network.

By adding your name to our current e-campaigns you can make your local MP, MSP, AM or MLA aware of the concerns people with asthma have both nationally and locally.

Supporting our e-campaigns will give you the opportunity to help shape policy and influence central, regional and local government and other decision makers.

Influencing in Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland

Health policy is a devolved issue. That means health policy in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales is dealt with by their respective administrations.

Asthma UK policy positions

Our policy positions outline our views on issues affecting people with asthma. We look at what the Government says on a particular issue and then decide whether we agree with their policy, or whether we would like to change it.
