Research in Northern Ireland
Asthma UK is funding two researchers in Northern Ireland, Dr Liam Heaney and Dr Lorcan McGarvey. Dr Heaney leads two Asthma UK-funded studies that focus on the treatment of people with severe asthma. The purpose of his first study is to develop a new test to identify people with steroid treatment-resistant asthma who might benefit from other forms of asthma therapy.
Liam Heaney
Dr Liam Heaney is based at Queen’s University Belfast and Belfast City Hospital. His innovative methods and ideas are transforming our understanding of what a diagnosis of severe asthma means, and how people with this condition can best be helped.
