Asthma guidelines launched

  • 14th February 2012

Today, the British Thoracic Society (BTS)/Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) will be launching patient versions of their asthma guidelines - Managing asthma in adults andManaging asthma in children. This is the first time these have been produced specifically for patients and provide information for people with asthma as to what they should expect in terms of treatment.

Cher Piddock, Asthma Nurse Specialist at Asthma UK, says: 'We're excited to see the release of Managing asthma in adults and Managing asthma in children, as these booklets will provide invaluable information for people with asthma, parents, carers and families. They will now be able to access information regarding asthma treatments and will also be able to gain an understanding of the care they should expect to receive from the NHS, which is crucial given the great deal of variation we see in terms of asthma care across the UK. We hope that these guides will empower people with asthma to work with healthcare professionals to manage their condition together.'
