Asthma UK comment on over-prescribing inhaled steroids in children
10 September 2007
Gordon Brown, Public Affairs and Communications Manager at Asthma UK Scotland said:
Inhaled steroids have transformed the management of asthma over the last 25 years and dramatically reduced the suffering associated with the condition.
However, many people with asthma may also have conditions such as hay fever and eczema and therefore may be taking more than one dose of inhaled steroids. Clearly this is a situation which needs to be monitored closely and we welcome the call for regular checks by health professionals.
If anyone has any concerns about their or their child’s use of inhaled steroids they can speak to an asthma nurse specialist on the Asthma UK Adviceline, on 08457 01 02 03.'
