Asthma UK comment on the news that David Beckham has asthma
23 November 2009
Dr Mike Thomas, Chief Medical Adviser to Asthma UK, says: ‘There have been reports that David Beckham has been seen using an inhaler device. His agent has confirmed that David has had mild asthma since childhood and uses medicines to help his condition.
‘There are more than 5 million people with asthma in the UK and we know that more than a fifth are diagnosed over the age of 34. Asthma is particularly common among elite sportspeople like Paul Scholes and Paula Radcliffe, who both suffer with the condition, proof that asthma needn’t stop you competing at the highest level.
