Easter fun for everyone at Asthma UK’s 10K run
Easter fun for everyone at Asthma UK’s 10K run
09 March 2007
Asthma UK’s 10K run on Easter Saturday builds on the success of last year’s event and is set to be bigger and better. The event on 7 April at Dorney lake, Windsor, offers something for everyone including a 2K run for children under 17 and an Easter Egg Hunt for spectators wanting some festive fun.
Set in 400 acres of private parkland, the 10K run enjoys a flat course around a beautiful world class rowing lake, providing ideal conditions for fun runners and those looking for a competitive finish time or preparing for the marathon. New for this year’s event is the junior 2K run which is split into three age groups and is the perfect way for kids to safely take part in the fun. For younger children and chocoholics Asthma UK has also organised an Easter Egg Hunt.
The 2K and 10K runs are inspired by John Kelly whose partner Jeni Allnutt died from an asthma attack almost three years ago. John said: ‘ My partner died from an asthma attack and although we talked about running a 5K or 10K together in the future, she never got the chance. I am very pleased to continue working with Asthma UK who have supported my idea to help organise a run in memory of Jeni.’
Ellie Crilly, Asthma UK’s Events Manager said, ‘Asthma UK is delighted to be holding our own 10K and 2K runs at Dorney Lake, which is a beautiful venue and offers a great course for both adults and children. We’re also very excited about the Egg Hunt, which means families can celebrate Easter weekend together in fun way. All events are open to everyone whether you have asthma or not, and by taking part you’ll be helping to raise vital funds for Asthma UK.’
5.2 million people have asthma in the UK, affecting one in five households. If you don’t have asthma yourself, the chances are you will know someone who does.
Asthma can be a serious condition. Tragically around 1,400 people die of asthma every year, even though 90% of these deaths are preventable.
There is no minimum fundraising target for runners although Asthma UK urges people to try and raise £100. The entry fee is £10 or £8 for those affiliated with a running club and £5 for children. All runners will receive a fundraising pack as well as a training guide from Runners World and people with asthma are encouraged to part but advised to make sure their asthma is well managed. To register for the Asthma UK 2K and 10K runs, call 020 7786 5000, email events@asthma.org.uk or visit asthma.org.uk by Thursday 5 April 2007.
