Official: Asthma UK is a great place to work
28 May 2008
Asthma UK is the UK's third best workplace and the 23rd best in Europe, according to the Great Place to Work Institute.
The list, which is featured every year in the Financial Times, applies to all sectors and sizes of organisation with over 50 employees. It recognises organisations whose good working practices and employment policies result in a healthy work environment.
Employees of participating organisations fill in a confidential survey that evaluates trust in management, pride in work and camaraderie among staff.
Organisations must also submit details of their policies and practices, to help build a picture of the working culture.
Asthma UK has achieved its highest ever ranking this year, and is also top placed charity.
Neil Churchill, Chief Executive of Asthma UK said: ‘We are delighted to be placed third on the list of Best Workplaces in the UK 2008 and to have built on our previous high position of fifth in 2005. We’re particularly proud to feature so highly in a list which covers all sectors, which just goes to show that you can achieve results with minimal financial resources.
'I think key to our success has been the pride we all take in our work, the trust that exists between staff and managers, the flexibility and choice that our staff enjoy which enables them to balance their work with commitments at home and the range of opportunities for development that we provide. Being an effective employer makes us more effective for people with asthma and we intend to work hard to maintain our position.’
