St Andrew’s First Aid to include asthma information
25 September 2007
Scotland’s St Andrew’s First Aid will be including for the first time life-saving information from Asthma UK in its first aid training packs. St Andrew’s seeks to preserve the lives of people in Scotland by making available a first aid service and by teaching first aid throughout the country.
Every year, 20,000 people are trained in first aid by St Andrew’s and receive a pack containing a manual, equipment and information leaflets.
Scotland has one of the highest asthma rates in the world - the condition affects 1 in 15 adults and 1 in 9 children and is one of the most common reasons for hospital admissions among children. St Andrew’s contacted Asthma UK Scotland offering to distribute the charity’s existing ‘First Aid Action Plan for Children’ in their packs and have since expanded to include the ‘Asthma Attack Card’ for adults.
‘We are the only charity to have information in these training packs and it is a great testament to the quality of our resources,’ said Shona Haslam, Asthma UK Scotland’s National Director. ‘By making sure more people in Scotland know what to do in the event of an asthma attack this information could potentially save lives.’
St Andrew’s First Aid training manager, Jim Dorman, said: ‘We are delighted to be working with Asthma UK Scotland and distributing this life-saving information.’
