Take the test to check your asthma control
01 May 2006
To mark World Asthma Day, 2 May, Asthma UK is asking people with asthma to take a quick online test to check their asthma control, the results of which will contribute to the first ever UK-wide asthma census. The 60-second test comprises five simple questions, and results appear onscreen or can be emailed to participants, together with links to further advice and information.
After taking the test people can use an interactive map to compare their score to those of others across the nation - including celebrities Chris Tarrant, Austin Healey, Tina Baker and Stephen Fry.
Asthma UK will collate the results of the survey after a month, to paint the most detailed picture ever of asthma control in the UK.
Experts at the charity hope that the test will help build a greater understanding of the importance of controlling asthma symptoms - which for most people with asthma can be achieved by taking prescribed medicines regularly.
‘Just one in five adults with asthma currently has very few or no asthma symptoms, which means over three million adults with asthma are living with symptoms that impact unnecessarily on their lives,’ said Ann-Marie Evans, Asthma UK’s Assistant Director of Communications.
'However, if asthma is well controlled, people should not have to miss out on the things that they want to do – whether that is playing with their children, going to the gym or simply getting a good night’s sleep.’
The census runs until the end of June 2006.
