Triathlon glory for asthma athletes
23 August 2005
Three brilliant events in one: that was the verdict of Asthma UK's plucky 15-strong team in this year's London Triathlon on 6 & 7 August. At the ExCel Centre in Docklands more than 8,000 participants put strength and stamina to the test, competing in the combined swimming, cycling and running events over various distances.
The triathlon is now the fastest growing multidisciplinary sport in the UK.
'The 2005 London Triathlon was a fantastic weekend,' said Asthma UK's London Triathlon Team Manager, Katie Lawson.
'This is the first year Asthma UK has taken part and we hope to have an even bigger team next year. It's the perfect event for those looking for a new challenge, and it's great for all levels of fitness as you can compete at a distance to suit you.'
The 2006 London Triathlon will take place on 5 & 6 August and if you reckon you can rise to the challenge on behalf of Asthma UK, all you have to do is pay a £50 race entry fee and raise £300 in sponsorship.
'You don't need bundles of kit to get you started, although it is very easy to get carried away with the latest gear!' added Katie. 'All you need is the motivation to get fit for a super event while raising money to help improve the health and well-being of the 5.2 million people with asthma in the UK.'
