A class effort

Asthma poster

Teacher Gill Mitchell is not only running the London Marathon and raising money for Asthma UK but she's enlisted a classroom full of students to get involved with her fundraising too!

The keen children and young people have designed posters to raise awareness and recorded a podcast with some key facts about asthma.

Gill said: 'It has been a great way to educate the kids about asthma.'

Sponsored walk for Asthma UK

Sponsored walk

Tony, 10, and Bryan Usher, 5,  who both have asthma, completed a 2.5 mile sponsored walk for Asthma UK.

Their grandmother, Margaret, said: ‘ It was a beautiful day and we walked along the cliff tops.  We were amazed at the number of people who approached us to donate money and chat to the boys and us - and give the dogs a pat of course!’

Asthma UK thanks both boys who have raised a fantastic £310 for the charity.

Mont Blanc Challenge

Mont Blanc challenge

Following a successful trek to Everest Base Camp in 2006 and raising more than £4,000 for Asthma UK, Alan Kells recently took on a new challenge to tackle Mont Blanc!

After months of training and preparation, Alan and a team of seven took on the high anti-clockwise trek around the Mont Blanc Massif, trekking for seven hours a day over eight days. Unfortunately, one member of the team was unable to carry on past day three following a badly sprained ankle, however the remaining team members all completed the challenge successfully.

‘Like Everest Base Camp nearly three years ago, it was very hard work, but an achievement that I am very proud of’ said Alan on his return.

By taking part in this arduous challenge, Alan’s personal aims were to prove that with specialist and well-controlled treatment, someone with asthma can participate in normal activities.

Secondly to raise £3,000 for Asthma UK's on-going research into the causes of asthma and help his local hospital, where he has received treatment, to purchase asthma monitoring equipment to help others with the condition.

Following the success of the trek, Alan has reached his goal and has raised just over £3,000 with a portion being donated to the Respiratory Unit at Salisbury District Hospital.
