Top 10 fundraising tips
You should have fun doing your fundraising so make sure you start early and be prepared. The Asthma UK Events Team is here to support you every step of the way so if you do have questions or have a great idea of your own that you want to share, just give us a call!
A record number of runners experienced the elation and exhaustion of the Flora London Marathon in 2006 and in doing so helped raised over 345,000 for Asthma UK. This is a fantastic amount - and with your help we may even beat this in 2007!

1. Weekends & holidays are an ideal time to meet up with friends and family – it is also the perfect opportunity to get them to sponsor you! Make sure that you carry your sponsorship forms with you at all times and remember the old idea of getting someone to make a generous donation at the top of the form. This compels everyone to be more generous as well.
2. Set up your own online sponsorship page - see our section about online sponsorship
3. Friends and relatives can help by passing sponsor forms amongst their colleagues, friends, social clubs etc. This will spread your fundraising net much wider. Every pledge will help!
4. You could become a “Party Taxi” - if you have parties and family gatherings you could volunteer to be the designated driver. By offering your friends and family a lift home from parties, you could ask them to donate the money that they would have otherwise spent on a taxi. This way you raise some money and they do not have to worry about how much they have had to drink or how they are going to get home.
5. Kick off the New Year with a mass clear out and take all your rubbish to a local car boot sale. Remember that your rubbish may be another person’s treasure! It’s an easy way of making lots of money.
6. If you are a member of a social club or sports club ask your team mates to help organise a quiz night. Asthma UK can provide you with a quiz pack and by approaching local businesses you can source lots of goodies for the winners.
7. Shave your head or wax your legs...the more painful, the more sponsorship money you'll get!
8. You could bake a batch of homemade goodies and sell them during your office breaks. You will be amazed at how much your employees will appreciate home baking and a nice cup of tea (for a small price of course!) at 3pm on a rainy afternoon.
9. Organise a dinner party with your friends and instead of a gift ask them to donate to your marathon effort.
10. And last of all - be enthusiastic. All the money you raise by taking part in the Flora London Marathon will help many of the 5.2 million people with asthma, who suffer with symptoms needlessly, to take control of their asthma. If you don’t have asthma, you will know somebody who does – and with your support we will understand more about the causes of asthma and free people with asthma from its effects.
