Become a special events volunteer

The volunteers who give their time, energy and expertise to help organise and run these events are highly valued by Asthma UK. We are always looking for volunteers to help out with our established events, and to set up committees to organise new events around the country. Read on to find out how you can join in.

Help out an existing committee

There are several ways you can help us.

  • Our main committees are currently based in London and Cambridge, and are often looking for people to help out on the day of the event. If you are available and willing to lend a hand this is most appreciated.
  • Our committees are also looking for new members to join them on a committed basis as other members leave. If you have the time to join one of these committees for a year or two, please get in touch.
  • Other fundraising groups are also looking for volunteers to help with their one off events and we are in the process of building a list of possible helpers across the country. Supporters may need someone to help decorate an event venue, man an Asthma UK stand giving out our leaflets or with a collection bucket, or they may want help promoting an event around your local area.

Set up a new committee

If you and a group of friends have some time on your hands and would like to make a difference to the lives of people with asthma, then start now. You will need a group of people to start off a committee, and an idea of what sort of event you would like to organise. We recommend you start off small, and see what works best for your group.

As a lot of our current events are in London, we would especially love to hear from you if you are in a different area of the country, so we can help raise awareness right across the UK.

We aim to ensure that being part of an Asthma UK Special Event Committee is a rewarding and enjoyable experience. While the charity encourages committees to work independently, our Special Events staff are always on hand to help and to offer support and advice.

As well as annual events we welcome one-off ideas organised by individuals with specific contacts and interests, for example a charity ball, our reception before the opening night of Tosca at Korn/Ferry Opera Holland Park, July 2008 or a fundraising dinner.
