Online sponsorship

A personal online fundraising page is a simple, efficient and fun way of raising money. Build your page in a few minutes using a service such as Justgiving.com then email your friends: they donate by credit or debit card, you watch the total grow and the money is sent straight to your chosen charity. Setting up your page
Creating your own fundraising page is incredibly easy. Visit www.justgiving.com, click on 'Create a fundraising page' and follow the step-by-step guide. There will be space for you to include your own message about why are taking part in your particular event and also room to include a photo of yourself – maybe even one with your running gear on!

Spread the word
Once you have set up your site (it won't take longer than 10 minutes) the next step is to email everybody. You will receive an email from justgiving.com telling you what the internet address is for your page – and then you can email far and wide! This helps spread your fundraising net much wider as you can even get donations from friends and family abroad.

Making amends
You can go into your site at any time and change your message so it's a great way of keeping people up to date with your progress. Past participants tell us that the more involved people feel in your challenge, the more generous and supportive they are likely to be.

Making a pledge
People can easily make a pledge online. This works in the same way as if they put an amount on your sponsorship form. If someone makes a pledge they can choose whether to pay immediately or pay when you complete the event. If their donation is dependant on your completing the event then they will receive an automatic email reminder two days after the event has finished. They will then be asked to give all their financial details for the pledge to be processed.

Security
The justgiving.com site is fully compliant with all the current Data Protection legislation. So you needn't worry about your friends and family receiving unwanted emails or junk mail. All donations are handled by a secure payment provider (WorldPay).

How do you keep track of what's been pledged?
If someone makes a pledge or a donation they will receive an automatic message of thanks from justgiving on behalf of Asthma UK. You will also receive a message telling you who has donated, how much they have given and their email address. So it's easy to keep track of your current total. There is also the option for people to make their donation tax effective. All donations from your website will be automatically added onto your fundraising total - although it does take a few weeks for the money to be processed.
