We are looking for individuals to donate their time and skills to supporting our fundraising activities, with typical tasks ranging from staffing stands to promote the charity through to cheering on runners at one of our major events such as the London Marathon. By volunteering at activities like these you will make a valuable contribution towards the charity’s vital fundraising work.
As an Events Support Volunteer you will be invited to help support us in your local area in a variety of ways. The most important things our volunteers can offer us are commitment and enthusiasm, as we depend on this to help things run smoothly. At most events you will find a variety of jobs, which may/can include:
- cheering participants on route at running events
- helping to set up or take down a fundraising stand
- helping with marshalling or signposting at an event
- managing the refreshments for participants at the post-race reception
- meeting and greeting participants
- helping with the registration of participants at an event.
All Event Support Volunteers will receive an Asthma UK T-shirt and you will also receive any information and support needed before the event to make sure you feel prepared for your role and are able to enjoy it on the day.
How much involvement that you have in our events is entirely up to you. You can take part in as few or as many as you like, and you can attend for as many hours as you wish.
Coming up in spring 2010
Asthma UK's spring events are fast approaching and we really need your help! We're looking for people to take part in cheering parties (a lot of fun!), collections and the start and finish of our major events, including:
- Putting Asthma in the Limelight street collection - 19 February - London
- London Marathon - 25 April - London
- Putting Asthma in the Limelight street collection - 30 April - London
- Putting Asthma in the Limelight street collection - 4 May - London
- Beach to Beach Bike Ride - 9 May - Brighton
- Edinburgh Marathon - 23 May - Edinburgh
- Three Peaks Challenge - 3 - 4 June - Fort William and 6 - 7 June Caernarfon
Cheering
We're looking for people to help with cheering our runners and cyclists at the London and Edinburgh Marathons and the Beach to Beach Bike Ride. Cheering parties are fantastic fun, highly rewarding and mean so much to our event participants:
'When things were starting to get tough, it was a great lift to hear the cheers and encouragement from our support teams, they were absolutely brilliant, the best charity support team out there on the course' David Beecroft, Flora London Marathon 2009 runner
The only skills needed to be a cheerer are the abilities to make some noise and have some fun!
Helping at start briefings and post-race receptions
We need people to help at the start briefing (Fort William, Scotland) and celebration meal (Caernarfon, Wales) for the Three Peaks Challenge, and the finish celebration for the Beach to Beach Bike Ride (Brighton). This will involve working with our Events Team to prepare for and set up the start or finish and being assigned a specific role such as handing out drinks. Volunteering for this type if role will be a great insight in to the background work of event management and would suit volunteers who are keen to help out with setting up and setting down events and learning about event management.
Putting Asthma in the Limelight street collections
If you would enjoy spending a couple of hours dressed up in lime coloured clothes and wigs to help us put asthma in the limelight while raising some money for Asthma UK - this role is for you!
