Asthma UK comment on new NICE medicines guideline and warns wrongly prescribing asthma medicine a highly dangerous poor practice:

Kay Boycott, Chief Executive of Asthma UK, says: "Prescribing errors have been found in almost half of the cases of people who die from asthma attacks. For the 1 in 11 people in the UK with asthma, medicines optimisation simply means getting the basics right and this saves lives. Shockingly, a national enquiry even found that one asthma medicine icine is wrongly prescribed, despite this poor practice being proven as highly dangerous1. We welcome the guideline in the hope that it will improve medicines management in asthma care, reducing avoidable prescribing errors to prevent life threatening asthma attacks."
