Asthma UK comment on research out today that perfume should be banned in hospitals

Sonia Munde, Head of Asthma UK helpline & Nurse Manager says:

"1 in 11 people in the UK have asthma and 60% of people with asthma tell us that perfume can trigger their asthma, leaving them at increased risk of a potentially life-threatening asthma attack. It can be difficult to completely avoid coming into contact with strong scents so if perfume is a trigger for you it’s vital you carry your reliever inhaler (often a blue colour) at all times, and follow an up to date written asthma action plan which will help you understand when your symptoms are getting worse and what to do. Anyone who is concerned about how perfume may affect their asthma can call our Helpline on 0300 222 5800 or visit www.asthma.org.uk."
