Dr Samantha Walker, Director of Research and Policy at Asthma UK, said:
“It's great to see new London Mayor, Sadiq Khan, tackling issues surrounding unacceptable levels of air pollution in London. As Sadiq has asthma himself, he'll know that air pollution leaves people with asthma fighting for breath, putting them at increased risk of a potentially life-threatening asthma attack.
"When air pollution levels are higher in London it's vital that people with asthma check pollution forecasts; carry their reliever inhaler with them at all times; and have an up to date written asthma action plan so they know what to do if their symptoms get worse. We urgently need significant investment into asthma research to find practical solutions to this invisible killer and we need governments across the UK to take action to reduce pollution levels."
