Sarah Woolnough, Chief Executive of Asthma UK and the British Lung Foundation responds to news that COVID-19 booster vaccines will be offered to people aged 40 to 49 in the UK. She said:
“Whilst it’s good news that the booster programme has been expanded to include those aged 40 and over, this announcement does not address our concerns around the number of people with asthma who are not able to get a booster jab yet. We have repeatedly explained to the government the problems with identifying people with asthma at risk of COVID-19 and that’s why we continue to call for them to use the free flu jab list so that no-one gets left behind.
“We want to ensure that at the point people’s immunity wanes they are protected by a booster vaccine. We urge the governments of the UK to urgently review the booster vaccine list to include everyone with asthma who is on the free flu jab list.
