Asthma UK comment on standardisation of cigarette packaging

Dr Samantha Walker, Director of Research and Policy at Asthma UK, says: “We’re pleased the Court has decided to clear the way for the new regulations to be introduced. Smoking has a huge impact, it reduces lung function, can cause people to develop asthma, increases the risk of more potentially life threatening asthma attacks, and lessens the effectiveness of some asthma medicines.  If you have asthma the best thing you can do is to give up smoking, or to not start smoking in the first place. Standardised packaging for tobacco products will help to reduce the number of children who take up smoking, hopefully reducing the overall impact on their health and the health of future generations.”
