How we fundraise

Your amazing support funds life-changing work to improve the lives of people with asthma. You can find out more about how and why we raise money below.

Asthma UK's goal is to stop asthma attacks and, ultimately cure asthma. To achieve this, we rely on the kind and generous donations that we receive from our amazing supporters. 

To be able to continue funding world-leading asthma research and providing vital advice and support to the millions of people that need it,  at certain times we will contact you to ask for your financial support, but only if you've given us your permission to do so. 

Whenever we contact you, we are committed to making sure our fundraising is legal, open, honest and respectful and we will always follow our Fundraising Promise.   

We are aware that some of the fundraising techniques we use may raise a few questions, so we hope we can answer these here for you. 

How will Asthma UK ask me for donations? 

There are lots of different ways that you can donate towards our work or support us and you can find out more about them through the Get Involved pages of our website.

We like to encourage you to support our work through a Direct Debit, either by playing the Asthma UK Lottery or through a Monthly Donation,  as knowing we have your ongoing support helps Asthma UK to plan ahead, with the confidence that we can continue to fund research and offer support for people struggling with their asthma.

We understand however, that a regular donation to support our work is not for everyone. Which is why from time to time, we will also ask you to support our work through a one-off donation or by playing one of our raffles. 

How can I stop Asthma UK from contacting me?

If you would prefer not to be contacted by any or all channels please call 0300 222 5800 or email info@asthma.org.uk. You can also write to us at Asthma UK, 18 Mansell St, London, E1 8AA.

Additionally, every mailing we send you includes a tick box or our phone number, which you can use if you want us to stop us sending you post. You can stop our emails, by using the unsubscribe link at the bottom of every email we send.

Why do Asthma UK contact me by post?

is popular with many of our supporters and we really appreciate the thousands of people who respond to our mailings every year. The type of postal mailings you can expect to receive from Asthma UK include our Christmas Appeal, Asthma Magazine and our Spring and Autumn Raffles.   

Unless you have previously told us you do not want to receive post from Asthma UK, when sending fundraising materials through the post, Asthma UK uses a 'legitimate interest' balancing exercise for people who have previously donated to us. Using 'legitimate interest’ allows us to send you post without your explicit consent.

The reason for using 'legitimate interest' is because we believe it is reasonable for people who donate to Asthma UK, to expect to hear about our work and to be given future opportunities to support it. We will only continue to send you postal communications for a maximum of three years following your last donation – unless you ask us to stop mailing you before this time or request to continue hearing from us.  

To make sure you are happy receiving post from Asthma UK, all our postal communications provide details on how you can stop receiving future postal communications from us.

Why do Asthma UK contact me by phone?

Telephone Fundraising allows us to communicate with you in a personal and friendly way - and is a great way for us tell you about our work. When you receive a call from Asthma UK, we want to ensure you are receiving the best possible experience, which is why we work with professional telephone fundraising agencies who make calls on our behalf. Every call made by our 3rd party fundraising agencies are recorded too, which allows us to monitor calls to ensure they meet our high standards and that you are not being pressured into supporting us.       

We will only ever call you if you have given us your permission to do so and at the end of every call, you should always be asked to reconfirm how you'd prefer to hear from us in the future.

At the start of any call you will always be told you are being contacted on Asthma UK's behalf and you will only be asked to proceed with the call if you are happy for the call to be recorded. Our fundraisers should also tell you that they are being paid a small fee to make calls on our behalf.   

It's our intention that every fundraiser making calls for Asthma UK is knowledgeable about our work, polite, courteous and able to provide contact details for you to confirm that the call is genuine.

You should only receive calls from UK Landline Numbers and when returning a call to these numbers, you should be greeted with a recorded message informing you that the call was made on behalf of Asthma UK. During this message you will also be given the opportunity to request that no more calls are made to your number.

What numbers are Asthma UK using to make calls to me?

Currently calls are being made using the following numbers:

If you receive a call from any of these numbers and would prefer not to receive any future calls from us; please redial the number you were contacted from and enter your phone number when prompted to do so. 

Why did I receive a phone call from Asthma UK?

If you have not previously supported Asthma UK and have received a phone call from us, this will be because you have expressed an interest in hearing about our work, through one of our carefully selected partners. Our partners specialise in finding people who might be interested in supporting our work through various websites, telephone surveys and questionnaires - we're very careful about the partners we choose to work with.  

This means you should only ever receive a call from us if you have expressed an interest in supporting our work. Unfortunately, there are times when we can receive an incorrect phone number, which has been provided to us by mistake. If you do receive a call from us which you have not requested, please do let us know and we'll be happy to help ensure you no longer receive calls from us.  

How else might Asthma UK contact me?

Email Fundraising is by far the quickest and most cost-effective way of letting you know about the different ways you can support us. Nonetheless, we know how annoying it can be to receive lots of emails. This is why we always strive not to send you too many emails and; make every effort to ensure they are interesting and relevant to you.  

Facebook Fundraising is a great way of letting you know about all the different ways you can support our work. If you've seen posts or adverts for Asthma UK on Facebook, it's likely to be because you've "liked" our Facebook page or that Facebook believes you may find our posts of interest. If you don't like seeing our posts, please be aware you can update your preferences through Facebook.
