Lung Research and Innovation Group (LRIG)

Bringing lung research and innovation together to speak as one voice and raise the profile of lung conditions.

Experts across the respiratory sector have come together to form the Lung Research and Innovation Group, also known as LRIG.

LRIG is made up of expert organisations and individuals determined to drive progress in lung research and deliver better outcomes for people living with a lung condition. The group is convened by Asthma + Lung UK and co-chaired by Dr Samantha Walker, Director of Research and Innovation at A+LUK, and Professor Ian Hall, University of Nottingham.

More investment in research and innovation is urgently needed to prevent, diagnose, treat and manage lung conditions better, and to give people better quality, longer lives. We want to triple public and private investment in lung research and innovation to £150 million.

LRIG’s priorities are to:

  • Map the research landscape to identify gaps in lung research and innovation to identify new opportunities for investment.
  • Promote collaboration so that funding allocated to lung research and innovation is used efficiently to maximise patient benefit and to boost the UK life sciences sector.
  • Encourage the funders of lung research and innovation, such as industry, charitable and Governmental funders, to increase investment in respiratory projects to at least £150 million per year.
